    Assistant Director

    The Coventry Public Library is seeking to fill the position of Assistant Director. 

    Position is responsible for performing professional and administrative work for the Library Department including overseeing and performing collection development and customer service functions. Work includes performing acquisition functions, maintaining and updating records and information, organizing library collections, planning adult programs, coordinating social media, creating the monthly newsletter, marketing/public relations, ordering supplies, providing reference services in the absence of reference staff, and supervising staff. Employee works under the general direction of the Library Director.  

    Minimum Qualifications: 

    • Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from an American Library Association accredited university and at least five years of progressively responsible library experience, including administrative and supervisory work.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are necessary. 
    • Knowledge of personal computer hardware and networks as well as computer programs and applications for cataloging, circulation, and reference.
    • Knowledge of social media platforms, specifically Facebook and Instagram.
    • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of people.
    • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously, despite frequent interruptions.
    • Ability to pay attention to details a prioritize work.
