    Head of Adult Services/Reference

    Coventry Public Library seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic, and innovative individual to head our Adult Services/Reference department and to become a vital part of the library’s administrative team. The candidate must have a strong sense of community service, excellent technology skills including all aspects of social media, and supervisory and budgetary experience. The successful candidate should have a proven record of planning and implementing programming for adults/families, reference work, and collection development. A working knowledge of Sierra is highly desirable. This is a 35 hour/week salaried position with one evening required. 

    SALARY
    $46,788 with full benefits package.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.
    • Three to Five years of public library experience, including supervisory experience.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Provides exemplary customer service, readers advisory, computer troubleshooting and other assistance to the public.
    • Stays informed about emerging library trends, new and current technologies and popular culture trends. Participates in professional development opportunities.
    • Participates in hiring extraordinary staff for the Adult Services department.
    • Responsible for supervising, scheduling and evaluating adult services staff.
    • Supports staff and resolves customer complaints and concerns as needed. Serves as an example and teaches staff to provide exemplary customer service.
    • Oversees and assists in collection development, selection and weeding of materials for adults and reference, ensuring that the library has a collection of materials which reflects the interests of our community.
    • Oversees maintenance of displays in the library’s main area.
    • Represents the library at regional, state and other cooperative meetings concerning adult and information services such as OSL Reference Working Group and OLIS Adult Services Round Table.
    • Serves as the OLIS-LORI Interlibrary Loan Contact
    • May act as Person in Charge of the Library in the absence of the Library Director and Assistant Director.
    • Knowledge of current technological applications for information access. Ability to utilize web-based and subscription databases. Ability to troubleshoot computers, printers, e-readers and other technological devices. Knowledge of ebooks, ereaders, Microsoft Office and Google applications.
    • Performs other duties as assigned

    Reference Librarian

    Part Time-18 hours per week

    $18.50 per hour-no benefits

    Coventry Public Library is seeking a reliable, customer-service oriented Reference Librarian.  The Reference Librarian performs various duties in assisting patrons in the use of library resources, including but not limited to, one-on-one tech help, public access computers, databases, and eZone. The Reference Librarian also answers reference and reader’s advisory questions in person, electronically, and over the phone. The position assists patrons with the Library’s office-related functions (printing, copying, faxing, and scanning). Some collection development responsibility will also be included. While the hours are somewhat flexible, the position requires evening hours, alternate Saturdays, and some Sunday afternoon hours (Sunday hours at time and a half). 

    The successful candidate must have an ALA accredited MLIS or degree in active progress, have the ability to work well with limited supervision, have excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, and possess excellent computer literacy.

    Coventry Library has an opening for a part-time circulation assistant. Hours needed are Wednesday 4-8, Thursday 4-8 and alternate Saturdays 9:30-5. Sunday hours at time and a half will also be available.  Starting pay is $11.50/hour.

    Duties include checking materials in and out, registering patrons for library cards, placing holds, shelving books, and other duties as assigned. Candidate must have excellent computer and customer service skills and enjoy working with a variety of people.  A high school degree is required with some college preferred.  Public library experience is highly desirable.  Some flexibility of hours is also necessary as is reliable transportation.
