Join Our Summer Reading Program - All Ages Welcome!

    Summer is here, and the Coventry Public Library is ready to help you Level Up at Your Library!  

    From June 7th through August 16th, the library invites readers of all ages—kids, teens, and adults—to dive into summer reading with exciting activities, fun challenges, and fantastic prizes designed to keep everyone entertained and inspired all season long. (Adults have until August 23rd to turn in their Reading Logs.) 

    Whether you’re a young reader just starting out, a teen looking for a challenge, or an adult eager to explore new stories, Coventry Public Library has a summer reading program for you! Track your reading progress for a chance to win great prizes and enjoy a summer full of stories, learning, and community.

    All ages can sign up for our Summer Reading Program at our Kickoff Party on Saturday, June 7th, or any time after that throughout the summer (before August 16th) and fill out a reading log. We've got great prizes for all ages!

     

     

    Kickoff Details:

    Kick off your summer reading adventure at the Summer Reading Kick-Off Party on Saturday, June 7th, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., right on the library’s front lawn. If the weather doesn’t cooperate, we’ll move the celebration indoors! The event will feature lively lawn games, a selfie station, refreshing fruit popsicles, and on-the-spot registration for the summer reading challenges. This is a drop-in event for all ages.

     

     

    Children's Summer Reading Program Details:

    Summer Reading Challenge for children ages 3 through entering 5th grade:

    • Set their own goal (of at least 3 titles)
    • Half-way check-in (pick from the prize box)- July 21-26
    • Date to come back for a completion prize- August 12-16

    Registration is required for the Children's Summer Reading Challenge.  When children check-in half way in July and for their completion prize in August, they must bring their reading log to Youth Services.

    Summer Story Times: Summer story time registration will begin on June 16 and continue until story times are full.  Library Babies, birth to 23 months, will be on Mondays at 10am.  Tales for Twos, two years of age, will be on Thursdays at 10am.  Preschool story time, three to six years, will be on Fridays at 10 am.  The summer session of story times will run from July 7th to August 8th.  Registration is required as there are a limited number of spaces.  Please call Youth Services at 822-9102 to register or with any questions.

    Children’s Summer Reading Performers & Programs:

    Lon Cerel’s MagicPalooza - Wednesday, June 25th at 11 am: A fun and interactive magic show for families with children ages 4 through entering 5th grade.  Registration required. Online registration opens June 2nd at https://coventrylibrary.org/kids.

    Bwana Iguana Reptile Adventure - Wednesday, July 9th at 11 am: A fun and informative reptile program for children ages 4 through entering 5th grade.  Registration required. Online registration opens June 26th at https://coventrylibrary.org/kids.

    Music at the Blissful-  Wednesday, July 23rd at 3 pm- for children ages 3 through entering 5th grade.  Registration required. Online registration opens July 10th at https://coventrylibrary.org/kids.

    MobileQuest: STEM Passport program- Thursday, August 7th at 1 pm- for children entering grades K-5.  Registration required. Online registration opens July 24th at https://coventrylibrary.org/kids.

     Crafternoon with Mr. Theo- Thursday, July 17th at 2pm- for children entering grades K-2. Registration required. Online registration opens July 7th at https://coventrylibrary.org/kids..

     Kids Reading Across RI Book Group- Wednesday, August 6th at 2 pm for children in grades 3-6Registration will be taken in Youth Services and opens on July 21st.  Children who register will receive a free copy of The Oldest Student: How Mary Walker Learned to Read by Rita Hubbard & Oge Mora.

    The statewide Rhode Island Summer Reading Program is supported by the RI Office of Library and Information Services, with funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.

     

     

    Teen Summer Reading Program Details:

    Teens entering grades 6-12 can register for the Teen Summer Reading program starting June 9th by visiting the library! Teens who register will make their own reading goal (it has to be at least one book) and get a summer reading player’s handbook with their registration quest complete.

    Teens who return their handbook by the end of the Summer Reading Program on August 15th, will get a completed sticker, and one entry for a grand prize. Teens will also get their pick of a drawstring bag and 10 stickers for completing the summer program! Throughout the summer there will be opportunities to earn more stickers by attending different programs and fun weekly challenges. The more stickers you get and quests you complete, the more entries you will have at the end for one of our grand prizes!

    Teens who register will also receive a free book and those who attend our Summer Reading Kickoff on June 7th from 10am-12pm will be able to register early and get a free keychain! Please contact the Teen Librarian with any questions!

     

     

    Adult Summer Reading Program Details:

    Reading and/or listening to books this summer?! Adults can sign up for our Summer Reading Program any time starting June 7th to earn raffle tickets for the books you read - and you’ll be entered to win one of these great prizes:

      • Prize option #1:    Inflatable kayak
      • Prize option #2:    $100 gift certificate to Dave’s
      • Prize option #3:    $50 gift certificate to the Bean Barn

    Adults have a 3 book minimum to receive (3) raffle tickets, with one additional raffle ticket for each book read/listened to after that. To be entered in the raffle, complete and turn in this paper Summer Reading Log (or online Log) by:  1 PM on Saturday, August 23rd.

    Paper logs are available at the library’s Reference Desk, and must be turned in to the Reference Desk at the Coventry Public Library, 1672 Flat River Road, Coventry, RI. And be sure to tell us which prizes you’d like your raffle tickets to go towards! Call 401-822-9105 with questions.
