    Head of Adult Services/Reference

    Coventry Public Library seeks a dynamic, enthusiastic, and innovative individual to head our Adult Services/Reference department and to become a vital part of the library’s administrative team. The candidate must have a strong sense of community service, excellent technology skills including all aspects of social media, and supervisory and budgetary experience. The successful candidate should have a proven record of planning and implementing programming for adults/families, reference work, and collection development. A working knowledge of Koha ILS is highly desirable. This is a 35 hour/week salaried position with one evening required. 

    SALARY

    $60,000 with full benefits package.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Master’s Degree in Library Science from an institution accredited by the American Library Association.
    • Three to Five years of public library experience, including supervisory experience.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

    • Provides exemplary customer service, readers advisory, computer troubleshooting and other assistance to the public.
    • Stays informed about emerging library trends, new and current technologies and popular culture trends. Participates in professional development opportunities.
    • Plans, markets, and runs instructional, informational, and recreational programs for adults.
    • Participates in hiring extraordinary staff for the Adult Services department.
    • Responsible for supervising, scheduling and evaluating adult services staff.
    • Supports staff and resolves customer complaints and concerns as needed. Serves as an example and teaches staff to provide exemplary customer service.
    • Oversees and assists in collection development, selection and weeding of materials for adults and reference, ensuring that the library has a collection of materials which reflects the interests of our community.
    • Oversees maintenance of displays in the library’s main area.
    • Represents the library at regional, state and other cooperative meetings concerning adult and information services such as OSL EZone Working Group, OLIS Adult Services Round Table, and any other applicable working group meetings.
    • Serves as the OLIS-LORI Interlibrary Loan Contact
    • May act as Person in Charge of the Library in the absence of the Library Director and Assistant Director. 
    • Knowledge of current technological applications for information access. Ability to utilize web-based and subscription databases. Ability to troubleshoot computers, printers, e-readers and other technological devices. Knowledge of e-books, e-readers, Microsoft Office and Google applications.
    • Purchases e-books and e-audiobooks for the library’s Libby Advantage collection.
    • Serves as Program Manager for passport services.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.
